Two of Scott County Health and Education Coalition (SCHEC) Members were awarded 3 of the 6 2008-2009 state awards given in Little Rock during the week of June 8-12, 2009 at MidSouth Summer School held at UALR. The awards are given out by Arkansas Prevention Network (APNet). APNet invite their members to nominate candidates for awards each year. For 2008-2009 APNet awarded, SCHEC coordinator, Melissa Gasaway, Outstanding Newcomer Award in recognition of the many accomplishments as a newcomer to the prevention field. Waldron Police Chief and SCHEC member, David Millard was awarded Friends of Prevention Legislative Award and People Making a Difference in the Community Award for his accomplishments as an advocate for the Social Host Ordinance/Law at Community and State level. Prevention Resource Center #5 Director Cindy Stokes presented the awards to Millard and Gasaway . While presenting she pointed out that good things are happening in Scott County and how significant it is that Scott County citizens received 3 out of the 6 State awards for prevention. SCHEC is working to reduce and prevent underage drinking in Scott County through evidenced based curriculums and environmental strategies.
